I am doing this so that I can do a clean install of El Capitan on an external SSD, then transfer my old files/applications somehow (not sure how this will work) before installing the SSD in my Macbook. I have not ever downloaded or installed 10.7 or higher since getting my computer 4.5 years ago (with Snow Leopard), so I can't upgrade to a version (via the App Store) where the above command will work.Īm I out of luck, or does someone know of a way to make the bootable drive in Snow Leopard? You need to have 10.7 or higher to be able to use it. The only problem with this is that 10.6.8 apparently does not support the createinstallmedia command.
